Tinubu Government Sets Launch Date for N25000 Cash Transfer to 15 Million Families
The national government has shared its plan to start the conditional cash transfer to 15 million families on October 17, 2023.
Betta Edu, the person in charge of Humanitarian Works and Making People Less Poor, talked about this plan on a TV show called Sunday Politics on Channels Television.
Edu talked about how the plan will start after the main leader, President Bola Tinubu, says it’s okay. They are also checking the big list of all the people who should get the money.
Edu said, “We are waiting for the President to say okay. We think he will say it this week. On October 17, we will start the money transfer to 15 million families in our country.”
“Right now, we are checking everything. Every place in our country knows we are doing this. We have people working in each place. The leaders of each place and many other people are helping.”
“We are doing this to make sure that the people who are on our big list are really from our country. They should be people who do not have much money, less than $1.95 every day. They should get this help.”
Edu knows that some people on the list may not be alive anymore or maybe they have more money now. So, they are checking the list to make sure it’s right.
Edu talked more about how they are doing the work. “We are checking the list in every place. We are using the bank number (BVN), NIM, and other things to find out who these people are. We want to be sure they are real.”
“There is also a way to check who they are by looking at them. We take a picture of the main person in the family and where they live. Every family has a number. So, other people can check the list too.”
RECENT UPDATES – 8 – OCTOBER 2023
The Tinubu government’s N25,000 cash transfer program to 15 million families is scheduled to commence in October 2023, according to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu. The program is an expansion of the existing Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program, which currently covers 4 million households.
The N25,000 cash transfer program is part of the Tinubu government’s efforts to reduce poverty and improve the lives of Nigerians. The program will target vulnerable households, including those with pregnant women, children under the age of 5, and the elderly.
To be eligible for the program, households must be registered on the National Social Register (NSR). The NSR is a database of poor and vulnerable households in Nigeria. Households can register for the NSR at their local government area office.
The N25,000 cash transfer will be paid to beneficiaries on a monthly basis. Beneficiaries will receive the payment either through a bank account or through a mobile wallet.
The Tinubu government has not yet announced the specific criteria for selecting the 15 million families that will benefit from the program. However, the government has said that the program will be targeted at the poorest and most vulnerable households in Nigeria.
The N25,000 cash transfer program has been welcomed by many Nigerians. However, some critics have raised concerns about the sustainability of the program and the transparency of the selection process.
According to a recent report by the World Bank, Nigeria has the highest number of poor people in the world, with over 90 million people living below the poverty line. The N25,000 cash transfer program is a welcome step in the fight against poverty in Nigeria. However, it is important to note that the program is just a temporary measure and that more needs to be done to create jobs and boost the economy in order to sustainably reduce poverty in the long term.
